Big edit 11/07: A new, improved file quality, print available as requested (sorry that it took so long).

In Oulu we have this annual festival called the Korttelihaipakka (something like 'Hood Hustle in english :P ). That's when people gather to the city market place to get hammered and listen to the city symphony orchestra. Plus, all stores stay open until 11pm.

There's a small islet near the city centre called Pikisaari which provided me the front seat place to see the eleven o'clock fireworks show : )


I prepared for this a lot in advance, like an hour or so. I was lucky to find an empty pier to just lay down and relax ;)

first i was just looking at the fireworks and i thought... oh okay... that's normal

and then the whole picture finished loading and i saw the bottom :O
genius :D

is the fireworks the only source of light in this picture? the way that the reflection on the lake framed the person's body is so cool.

(also i love the shadow of the person that was caused by the fireworks)

Well, taking time to prepare definitely paid off. This is superb, I love the blues and the purples and the pinks, the whole composition is perfect and the scenery is magical. I just wished I'd been on that pier too... :)

Yep, it was almost pitch black dark that time. I placed my camera on the pier and used the self-timer to shoot photos : ) Then I just picked the best one.
